Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), a subsidiary of state oil major Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), has invited companies to submit a letter of interest (LOI) for developing a planned 1GW solar energy development.

Companies have been invited to submit LOIs for the planned 1GW Al-Dibdibah photovoltaic (PV) solar project planned at the Al-Shagaya renewable energy complex. Interested parties have been asked to submit LOIs to the US’ Worley Parsons, which is the owner’s representative.

The Al-Dibdibah plant would be one of the largest PV solar facilities in the region, and is planned to generate 2,500GWh of electricity per year.

According to sources in Kuwait’s energy sector, KNPC is hoping to begin the tendering process for the plant in July 2017.
