The Ministry of Transportation is taking several steps to improve the metro service, including upgrading passenger carriages, trains, and stations, Egypt’s transport minister stated on Wednesday, according to a press release.

The ministry is working on repairing the fleet of passenger and cargo pulling machines, as well as on increasing ticketing booths and launching online booking services, Hesham Arafat added.

He stressed that the development of the metro services are being carried out according to a specific timeframe.

During the meeting with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Arafat presented the proposed vision for linking the New Administrative Capital with the National Railway Network.

The minister also reviewed the plans for developing the Alexandria Tram, which requires doubling the capacity of the trams and halving the journey time.

In March 2016, the transport ministry announced that its future plan involves around EGP 1 trillion worth of investments in the sector between 2016 and 2030.
