The day president Nasser made his voice heard to the whole world announcing  Egypt’s decision to nationalize the Suez Canal, I was among the local and international correspondents standing right behind him in the veranda of Alexandria stock market in down town Manshiah.  The launching of the nationalization of the Suez Canal was more of an earthquake effect that made headlines in international media channels and decision making centres world wide.  France and Europe were enraged as well as the Suez Canal company in Paris…. … Nasser eventually managed to take control of the Suez Canal  Authority and appointed Eng. Mahmoud Younes as its head person.

After the nationalization storm calmed down , the Suez Canal Authority decided to hold a marathon for long distance swimming from Ismailia, and in this occasion the Middle East Observer newspaper obtained approval from Suez Canal Authority chairperson to issue a supplement of 8 pages about the Suez Canal festivities.  The Middle East Observer’s special supplement on the Suez Canal then  was distributed world wide.

Again and for the second time, I am having  the opportunity to be part of another supplement on the  new Suez Canal, and for the second time I am blessed with the opportunity to feel proud, sincerely proud of the efforts exerted to make the new Suez Canal a reality in such a short period of time.
