At this special month of the year, when Moslems around the world are celebrating the Holy month of Ramadan; a month that calls for good deeds, and enhancing all that is positive in human ties, several satellite channels are screening The Egyptian television series “The Jewish Alley”.

The series reminds us all of an Egypt that we once had, one that enjoyed coexistence between Egyptian Jews , Christians, and Moslems. It reminds us that Judaism is a religion and that we need to draw a line between zionism and Judaism. It takes us back to the backbone of the Middle East drama; the Israeli dream of a State from the Nile to the Euphrates.

At times like this, one can’t help but stop and think what if the Israeli dream wasn’t there?

What if the Jews of the world continued to coexist with their fellow nationals in the Middle East? What if Israel managed to reach a peaceful settlement with its neighbors? A lot of questions are triggered, and they all reflect our aspiration for a stable and peaceful Middle East, with no more bloodshed. Around here we are growing tired of the daily news of bombings, and the tragedies they leave behind.

Can we dream of peace around this region? is the dream even possible or are we those who dream of peace going to be blamed for aspiring for peaceful coexistence at a time when Israeli plans of control are getting even more ferocious?

The Jewish Alley episodes are being screened at the right time, because at this very crazy times that we are going through we need to stop and think, and maybe take the time to dream…. who knows the dream may one day lead us to a reality with less bloodshed….
