BREAD DISTRIBUTION DECISION UNACCEOTABLE BY GOVERNMENT AND EGYPTIAN PEOPLE

Supply Minister Khaled Hanfi unveiled the new bread sale mechanism that includes 150 loaves for every citizen monthly at a price of five piaster.   He also said that the ministry will buy the bread from diesel-powered bakery for 33.7 piaster and from gas-powered bakery for 33.3 piaster.

Though this decision was taken for the sake of the State and to protect the citizen’s interest at the current critical circumstances the country is passing through, I think it is unfair decision, especially for simple and low-income people who mainly depend on bread and low-cost food like Foul and Tameya.

This decision comes to add more burdens on poor citizens who are already suffering from high-cost electricity consumption, water and rent bills, high living conditions, the same problems of the third world countries.

I also believe that this decision is unjust to the government, middle class people and State treasury.

As long as this decision is not fair for both sides; the government and the people should be revoked as it is not working for the interest of any side.  This decision looks like the other decisions that were taken during the time of inflation when prices were rapidly growing;  a monetary increase that does not lead to better living conditions for poor people and that shows the government’s failure to put an end to this inflation.
