In accordance with the European Commission, Germany’s quota of refugees is more than 31,000, while France’s quota is 21,000, and Spain is at 15,000. In Berlin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel held a crisis meeting with her government to examine the refugee issue, and to address the objections raised within the German government to opening the borders for refugees. Merkel announced Germany’s willingness to receive 800,000 refugees.

It should be noted that Germany was the first country to call upon Europe to open the doors for thousands of refugees arriving from Hungary and Eastern Europe.

Merkel further announced that the German government will provide 6 billion Euros in support to the country’s various governorates to help refugees settle down.

This is why the Middle East Observer believes Merkel should be nominated for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.
