Gamal Serour, Minister of Manpower, said that nearly 223,000 have applied to the Ministry to work in development projects from East Port-Said to Suez Canal. The Ministry is currently coordinating with Engineering Authority of the Egyptian Armed Forces (EAAF) and the project’s supervisor to come up with the best scheme for recruiting applicants.  They are also working on providing training to those who need it from among applicants, and identifying specialties required in market there. This is part of a new agenda adopted by the Ministry of Manpower to replace theoretical education of youth with practical work in 51 training centres.

Serour confirmed that the Ministry has the financial resources needed to fund the project. He also referred to President El-Sisi’s assurance on his support to the project by creating job opportunities for the youth in EGP 200bn-projects, and signing a training protocol with Canada and Italy.

In a press conference on the sidelines of Port Said’s 2nd recruitment forum, Serour said that tough measures will be taken against any company disregards recruiting youth, asking companies to raise wages of Egyptian labours to attract them to the market. He also expressed his dissatisfaction that employers seek to recruit foreign labours to face lack of experience among youth, which creates a gap among employers and youth.

He rejected lowering charges paid by companies for each foreign labour, which the investors’ office in Port Said estimated at EGP 6,000.
