Minister of Supply, Khaled Hanafy, said last week that the European’s €4.8m LactMed Project fund will contribute in boosting Egyptian dairy industries’ SMEs. LactMed was founded to coordinate supply chains, support dairy manufacturers, promote products in local and international markets, create proper working environments for the sector’s companies, and introduce them with the most advanced dairy production technologies.

“The key goal behind this project is to support and develop production chains starting from small farms, ending with mass-producers,” Hanafy added during the inauguration of LactMed’s 1st milk collection centre in Nubaria city, Beheira Governorate. He pointed out that this new centre has an approximate capacity of 150 tons of monthly dairy productions, it could be the basis on which the 1st agricultural industrial dairy production centre would be established. It is a model to be imitated  by all other governorates.

Hanafy has also inaugurated a new “Gameeti” project’s branch in LactMed’s 1st milk collection centre, to provide commodities at affordable prices in Nubaria city.

Ministry of Supply›s «Gameeti» project includes granting youth loans-ranging from EGP 50k and 100k- to establish commodity outlets.

The project›s first 3 commodity outlets were inaugurated last week in Hagar An-Nawateyah, Al-Falaki Street, and Aeayed district in Alexandria. The inauguration was attended by representatives of agriculture and industry ministries, as well as Beheira and Alexandria farmers’ syndicates.
