Egypt has joined the rest of the world in celebrating World Autism Awareness Day by lighting up various locations and famous sites in blue. This comes to honour millions of people across the world whose lives are touched by autism.

In its keenness to raise awareness on humanitarian issues, the Egyptian Stock Exchange lit its headquarters in blue. Other sites included the Cairo Tower, Hatshepsut and Luxor Temples.

Celebrations included lighting landmarks across Egypt, as their landmarks lit blue, signifying hope, especially to autistics. Celebrations took place in cooperation with The Egyptian Autistic Society (ESA).

Moreover, ESA launched “the first step is you” campaign with which a number of fashion designers, including Amina Khalil, expressed solidarity, selling their designs in blue in an auction held by ESA, where revenues will be donated to support underprivilaged autistic children.
