Egyptian-Spanish bilateral trade up 17%

Trade exchange between Egypt and Spain grew 17% year-on-year between January and November 2016, the Egyptian minister of trade and industry, Tarek Kabil, said in a statement on Monday.

During the eleven-month period, bilateral trade with Spain reached EUR 1.9 billion, compared to EUR 1.6 billion in the same period the year before, the minister indicated.

Spanish investments in Egypt reached EUR 972 million, distributed mainly on the energy and chemicals sectors.

Spain ranks 15th in the countries investing in the Egyptian market, according to the statement.

Non-petroleum Egyptian exports increased by 25% year-on-year in last January, reaching $1.66 billion up from $1.32 billion in the same period the year before, Kabil said on Sunday.

The Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said in a recent report that trade deficit declined in December 2016 by 40.5% to EGP 2.38 billion, compared to EGP 4 billion in December 2015.
