It is more likely that that Mumbai, the great Indian megapolis city, will get a Scandinavian touch by the support of the western European nation turning Mumbai in its 20-year development plan till 2034.

Mumbai shall likely be a smart city; economically, ecologically and socially in a sustainable development plan   for the coming 20 years.

This “Swedish touch” in the Indian city comes after the Swedish urban development and IT minister Mehmat Kaplan visited Mumbai and had a meeting with   State chief secretary Swadheen Kshatriya and Brihan Mumbai Municipal Commissioner (BMC) Ajoy Mehta . Both discussed how such this idea could come to realize in one of the richest cities corporation on the continent.

In a later press statement following the meeting, Kaplan said,”We have the expertise in various fields and we would like to collabourate with the Maharashtra government and offer our expertise in waste management, digital urban land management and urban transportation.”

He also added that there are some vital changes that need to be highlighted such as waste and land management and transportation among others.

“Sometimes we do not know how city planning is to be dealt with. The Geographic Information System (GIS) is an important part when you are dealing with 3D urban land management. If this is done, we can actually make the decisions faster and socially sustainable,” he said.

Although all sound to be great, the developmental plan 2034   met much criticism as it was highly criticized for large number of errors in the proposed plan, which was subsequently ditched by the state government.
