Dubai developer Nakheel said that it has awarded a Dhs 27.5m contract for traffic signals and road improvements at its Jumeirah Village Circle development. The company said that it appointed Dubai-based KTC International Contracting LLC for the work, which involves road improvements and traffic signal installation at 29 major junctions within the 811-hectare community. The work is expected to begin in a few weeks’ time and will take 10 months to complete. Nakheel is also improving access to JVC via a new road that will connect the community to Hessa Street. The developer said that it has issued a tender for the contract and said that it expected to begin construction soon. JVC consists of more than 700 villas developed by Nakheel and over 230 other buildings from third party developers, which are either completed or under construction. The development has the capacity to house nearly 300,000 people upon completion. Nakheel has also announced plans to build a shopping mall and more landscaped parks in the development. But despite such plans for community development, the company has been criticized by residents who complain of improper road signage, lack of traffic signals and speed breakers in the residential areas. Earlier this year, residents expressed their ire on social media after an ambulance lost its way in Jumeirah Village Triangle — another Nakheel development — due to inadequate directions within the community. Following the incident, Nakheel acknowledged concerns of improper signage at the community and said that it is working towards improving the services.
